During the 16th World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates Bogotá was declared "Global City of Peace", an acknowledgment vested by the Permanent Secretariat of the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates and the laureates on the cities that host the Summit in recognition of their peace-building efforts.

Among other criteria, the Secretariat took into account Bogotá's efforts towards peace-building, seeing the process as one that will favor social and enterprise development, and which has been implemented for several decades.
