The Bogotá Chamber of Commerce led a project that aims to draw up the Colombia-Korea 2030 roadmap in trade, innovation, entrepreneurship, investment, and cooperation matters.

For this strategy, we interviewed Colombians, Koreans, business people, public employees, academics, union leaders, and others to identify the potential of the Free Trade Agreement and the Korea – Colombia relationship.

Colombia - South Korea - Political relationship

Colombia and South Korea share a historical tradition of cooperation that begins with the participation of Colombian troops in the Korean War, which took place between 1950 and 1953.
Subsequently, diplomatic relations were established on March 10th, 1962. In September 2011, diplomatic relations were raised to the category of Strategic Cooperation Association.

Colombia - South Korea - Trade relationship

In November 2009, Colombia and South Korea agreed to start negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement. On June 25th, 2012, they officially announced the conclusion of the negotiation. On February 21st, 2013, the countries signed the Free Trade Agreement, which finally came into force on July 15th, 2016.
